Kennedy Political Union

You always hear about KPU. Even before I arrived here at AU, I had heard about the amazing speakers and events that the Kennedy Political Union had put on — my Uncle, an AU alumn still remembers the events put on more than 40 years ago. You can maybe chalk it up to timidness, but I never thought I would work for KPU: its incredible reputation and pedigree demand the best and brightest the AU Community has to offer. Being a part of KPU means being a part of AU history, being behind the memories and conversation-starters that countless students will still be talking about for years to come. Getting to work as the Financial Coordinator for KPU has been one of the greatest honors I’ve had during my time at AU. Behind every event are students who help bring it together — a complex series of plans and contributions from the entire team. The Financial Coordinator’s role is unique in that comes full-circle for each event. My work starts reviewing the contracts for speakers while ensuring we have the necessary funds for the event. At the end I make sure the contracts have been processed and that our speakers have been paid. I’ve worked closely with our leadership team while overseeing our finances and helping to plot out the future. It is not the most glamorous and for those who hate numbers I am sure it sounds like a nightmare! But getting the chance to be a part of the KPU team has meant getting the chance to work with some of most tenacious and brilliant people the AU Community has to offer. I am immensely grateful for this opportunity. Getting the chance to be a part of AU history — you can’t put a price on that.
